It's getting to be that time of year -- the 100-best-this-or-that lists, the top news stories of 2007 (as if nothing else is going to happen in the next twelve days), the New Year's resolutions. The heck with all that. I'd rather look forward to the (mostly) good things that are bound to happen in 2008. Here's what I am looking forward to:
- Finishing my book-length manuscript and starting to send it around (this won't be my first book-length ms. to get sent out, believe it or not; I had another one about 15 years ago, but it stunk, so thank goodness nobody wanted it).
- Publication of my chapbook in August.
- Probably buying a car (I'm driving a 1991 Corolla with 90K miles on it; it's a great little car and has yet to let me down, but I'm starting to think enough may be enough)
- In light of the above, very possibly not having funds to travel for a summer workshop (sigh) -- in which case I may do the Indiana U. Writers' Conference again
- Maybe, finally, getting applications sent out to low-residency MFA programs (sshhhh! don't tell! you'll jinx it!)
- The following concerts, most of which I've already got tickets for:
- Three Girls and Their Buddy (Emmylou Harris, Shawn Colvin, Patty Griffin, and Buddy Miller -- wow, what a lineup, huh?)
- Carrie Newcomer's CD release concert for The Geography of Light (Carrie lives near here, so I get to see her perform at least a couple times a year. Lucky me!)
- Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band! (Bruuuuuuce!)
- Bobby McFerrin, Chick Corea, and Jack DeJohnette (I may have an extra ticket for this one, in Row A ... anyone who'll be in or near Indianapolis in April and might be interested, drop me a note)

That is not even counting all the terrific books I'm going to buy and read next year ... much to look forward to there as well.

The 2008 Albuquerque Cultural Conference (assuming the organizers manage to pull of another one as they've hinted they might).
Possibly (there's a chance) finishing a poetry book manuscript I've been working on since 1984. I'm near the end of it.
Publication of a posthumous book of poems by Teresa Anderson (currently in the works from West End Press).
Finding the ambition to get a new computer printer. (My current one isn't feeding paper very well.)
More vacation days! (I've spent all mine for this year, I'll have a new batch starting in January.)
Impeaching Bush and Cheney.
(This last one seems unlikely at this point, I realize, but I wanted to include it just on principle.)
Getting a publisher for the new book.
Getting back to work on my novel.
More travels in Europe.
My first AWP ever.
Finishing my chapbook and more poems.
My birthday, even though I'll finally be closer to 40 than 30...and, well..we'll just leave it at that.
Not knowing what my new obsessions and distractions will be.
In want to be like the father in A Christmas Story and win a MAJOR! award.
--Hope to get one of the 2 chapbooks I am starting to send around published.
--Finish my thesis and then hopefully send that around as a booklength manuscript.
--Would like to have at least one piece of fiction and one non-fiction accepted for publication somewhere.
--lose about 50 pounds.
--find a pt job at a college or library so my husband isn't the only responsible adult in the household :)

2008 sounds like a good year for you. I will be getting my book in my hot little hands, for which I am eternally grateful. Running my first AWP panel. Hopefully getting to make a lot of 2 and 3 day trips for readings and hijinks.
Also, I'm hoping to acquire a service monkey.

Have been contacted by a few different theatres to (finally!) perform my one-woman "Show & Tell".
Researching Edna St. Vincent Millay, and planning a show based on her life(big thank you to Franklin Abbott for this idea!), I've entitled it:"The Woman Called Vincent".
I plan to pray alot for Peace in the World, and wish, like another commenter here, that this Administration could be impeached.(sigh)
