Happy to inform

There are a lot of things in this world that feel good. One of them is plucking the white SASE from the mailbox, holding it up to the light before opening it (oh, come on, some of you do that too, I know it), peering through the envelope at the letter inside, dimly making out the words "happy to inform you that" and tearing into the envelope.

(Yes, maybe it's gauche and boring to post the details of one's rejections and acceptances on one's blog. So what. It's not like the non-poety people in my life are interested in hearing about it, and I do like to share happy news with people who might appreciate it.)

So, Calyx will be publishing my poem "Against Metaphor" next year. I don't know which issue yet. But I do like Calyx very much, so I am pleased. And now if you'll excuse me, I have a little self-congratulatory butt-waggling acceptance dance to perform.

Calyx was the first place I ever really wanted to be published. I haven't yet, but I still want to. Wow and double wow for you. Maybe triple wow. Yep, definitely triple wow.

Congratulations! Calyx is such a beautiful magazine. They published a short story of mine several years ago. I am so glad to see that they're still in existence.

p.s. I love your self congratulatory butt waggling dance. I'll definitely have to try it the next time I have something to waggle about.

Congratulations! A fine publication and always a happy day when an acceptance arrives. I certainly enjoy those skinny envelopes!

Excellent! Calyx is lovely, always gorgeously put together. I'm going to go turn on the Alias theme for the express purpose of vigorous butt-waggling in your honor. Hurrah!

Congratulamations!

And who cares if it's gauche? It's what we do. When you get a good one, it's right to publicize.

Holy moly, all of you -- thanks. :) It's nice being able to share stuff like this with people who "get it" -- both that being published is nifty, and that it isn't the be-all and end-all or even the main reason for writing. (but it's still nifty!)
