Introducing ... Little New Guy!

We're in negotiations about his name, Little New Guy and I. He's very happy, very playful (understatement), and Bear is taking it all in stride. He's hissed a couple of times, but only when Little New Guy has done the full-on pounce-onna-big-cat-face ambush thing. I think they are going to become great friends.

Little New Guy likes kitten food, the kitty water fountain, and long walks on the beach ... er, strike that last. He is super friendly and affectionate, and he has a Mighty Mighty Purr Machine.

He was picked up as a stray by the Morgan County Animal Shelter about a month ago, and was saved from imminent euthanasia by Jody from Rescue Farm. He is about five months old, and I am utterly smitten. :)

Want to see more kitten pictures? Sure you do.

UPDATE, Sunday morning: His name is Lotus. He is named after the Lotus Festival, which is taking place this weekend; the festival was named for folk musician Lotus Dickey, who was from Orange County, Indiana. So, an appropriate name for an orangey kitten adopted during Lotus weekend! And, sometime in the middle of last night, he and Bear figured out how to play together. They've been tearing around the house pouncing on each other ever since. It's making me smile more than I have in the entire last month put together.

I'm glad for you and Lotus. We have a new kitten, too, a stray who followed us home from a walk and has never left (except for his trip to the vet). My bigger cat now has his own pet, and their hijinks keep us laughing all day long.

Oh, he's just brilliant! And Lotus-y in all the right ways! I can't stop grinning and typing in exclamation points!! But really, I'm so happy for you . . . and he's obviously very lucky to have serendipitously found such a good home. This is so nice. (Do you know my friend Jenny L., by any chance . . . she does a lot of animal rescue work in the Bloomington area?) Congrats! :)

He's beautiful, Anne. I've always had a soft spot for the orange guys (including my own General Tso, the precise shade of General Tso's chicken, who now lives with my mom, who wastefully calls him simply Kitty. The naming of cats is a fabulous matter. Lotus, yes).

The naming of cats is fatuous.
I named Orlando Orlando. She named herself Monster Truck.

I named Paris the Genius Cat Paris the Genius Cat and he named himself If I could kill you and eat you, I would. Don't ever forget it.

Thanks, everyone! I love orangey guys too -- actually Lotus looks almost exactly like Yoda, my sweetiecat who died in August 2002 at age 18 of cancer & kidney failure. So I do know how excellent orange kitties are.

Okey Dokey Artichokey (I always want to say that) -- no, I don't know Jenny L. that I know of, although it's altogether possible we have crossed paths at some point; you know how this town is!

Rebecca, you made me snork all over my keyboard. I'm afraid to wonder what my cats have named themselves. I think Bear's name might be Feed Me Feed Me Feed Me though. That's mostly what he has to say about life.

Lotus is a cutey!

I think our cat Pammy Yaber has named herself Pam-Diddy. One day she told me her name was Pamma Lamma Ding Dong, and then there was the whole Wham Bam, Thank You Pam phase. But she outgrew that, thank goodness.
